Forget the crowded parks. If you are looking for untamed wilderness, striking landscapes, and wildlife that rules the red earth, the Tsavo ecosystem is calling. This 6-day, 5-night "Best of Tsavo" safari takes you deep into the heart of Kenya’s largest and oldest national parks.
Journey from the volcanic, spring-fed oases of Tsavo West to the endless, flat savannahs of Tsavo East. In between, experience the magic of the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, spending a night suspended above a bustling watering hole at the iconic Salt Lick Lodge. From the famous "red elephants" dusting themselves in the morning sun to the elusive leopards hiding in the acacia woodlands, this is a safari designed for true nature lovers. Let Giben Adventures Tours and Safaris handle the logistics while you immerse yourself in the wild.
Your adventure begins early as we depart Nairobi, driving southeast toward Tsavo West National Park. Entering the park, you’ll immediately notice the dramatic change in scenery—wooded hills, ancient lava flows, and baobab trees. We arrive at your lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon, embark on your first game drive, visiting the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary and marveling at the rugged terrain.
Overnight: Tsavo West (Lodge/Camp)
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Wake up to the sounds of the African bush. Today is dedicated to exploring the wonders of Tsavo West. A major highlight is a visit to Mzima Springs, a crystal-clear oasis where fifty million gallons of water gush from the under-parched lava rock daily. Here, you can leave the vehicle and walk to an underwater viewing chamber to watch hippos gliding effortlessly and crocodiles basking on the banks. We'll spend the afternoon tracking predators and plains game against the backdrop of the Chyulu Hills.
Overnight: Tsavo West (Lodge/Camp)
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After a final morning game drive and breakfast in Tsavo West, we exit the park and take a short drive to the private Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary. Following lunch, we head to the famous Salt Lick Safari Lodge. The afternoon is yours to relax and watch herds of elephants, buffalo, and waterbuck gather at the waterholes directly beneath the elevated rooms. We will head out for a late afternoon game drive, with an opportunity for a night game drive (optional) to spot nocturnal creatures.
Overnight: Salt Lick Safari Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Enjoy a magical morning watching the sunrise over the Taita Hills before departing for Tsavo East National Park. As we cross over, the landscape flattens into expansive, arid plains, offering incredible visibility. Tsavo East is famous for its large prides of maneless lions and vast herds of "red elephants"—colored by the rich volcanic soil they use for dust bathing. We will enjoy an afternoon game drive exploring the Galana River and Aruba Dam areas.
Overnight: Tsavo East (Lodge/Camp)
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
With a full day in Tsavo East, we have the freedom to cover vast distances. We will follow the course of the Galana River to the spectacular Lugard Falls, where water violently carves its way through water-sculpted rocks. Keep your camera ready for gerenuk, Somali ostrich, and perhaps a cheetah scanning the plains from a termite mound.
Overnight: Tsavo East (Lodge/Camp)
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After an early morning game drive to catch the predators at their most active, we return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast. We then begin our leisurely drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon. You will be dropped off at your hotel or the airport, carrying unforgettable memories of the Tsavo wilderness.
